NOTH Cafe — Moda

Cafe & Restaurant | Moda / Kadıköy, Istanbul | 2025

The plainness of brutalist form, textural depth and the daily play of light shape a quiet escape in the city.

NOTH Cafe — Moda — Moda / Kadıköy, Istanbul (1)

At NOTH the space was conceived as a contemporary cafe offering a calm escape within the dynamic rhythm of the city, blurring the boundary between inside and out. The plainness of brutalist form, textural richness and the temporal play of daylight set the terms of the design.

Its character was shaped through warm concrete surfaces with a lime-plaster effect, dark ceramic cladding with a vertical rhythm, natural timber elements and textured stone. Wide glazed openings and continuous floor materials established an uninterrupted visual relationship between terrace and interior.

The micro-ceramic cladding of the bar mass, in contrast with the raw wall textures, gave the space a strong architectural identity. Iconic chair forms in natural timber and warm-toned textiles broke the severity of the brutalist line and created an inviting atmosphere.

The service and bar area was designed both as a functional arrangement that makes the operational flow seamless and as a sculptural presence that anchors the room.
