From a dated blue-tiled bathroom to a warm, storage-rich room of pale beige surfaces, timber texture and concealed light.

The bathroom of this three-bedroom apartment in Ümraniye, Istanbul, was developed through natural tones and plain detail in order to create a warm and timeless atmosphere.

Pale beige tile and natural timber texture were brought together into a calm, coherent material language. A wall-hung vanity, recessed niches and concealed lighting answer the storage requirement while letting the room read as lighter and more open.

The vertical tile texture in the shower contrasts with the broader surfaces used elsewhere and gives the room depth. Black brassware and handle detail add a sharper, more contemporary character within the light palette.

Within a restricted footprint, bringing the washing machine and dryer inside a purpose-made cupboard resolved the functional requirement without breaking the visual whole. Linear light around the mirror, under-unit lighting and ceiling spots were used together to build a soft, layered lighting scenario.

The aim was a plain, warm, modern domestic bathroom that meets the demands of daily use and is strong on storage.
