Bathroom & Wet Room — Cologne

In this Cologne apartment the bathroom was approached through Wabi-Sabi aesthetics and warm modern principles, while staying faithful to the compact, rational spatial logic of European architecture. The contrast between brutal textures and natural tones gives the room a calm, timeless and refined spa quality.

Set up in sympathy with the urban fabric of Cologne, the concept uses textured Italian decorative plaster in brick and earth tones on the upper walls, with vertically laid olive-green ceramic in the shower niche. Light terrazzo-effect finishes at low level and underfoot give the space air and visual depth.

A timber-framed glass shower screen keeps the flow of light uninterrupted, while a natural oak vanity unit, open lower shelving and an integrated illuminated mirror cabinet create highly functional storage. Wall-mounted chrome fittings, a vessel basin and a monobloc WC complete the project with a plain, sculptural finish.
